DR. HENRY CARR KILLED IN FALL FROM_SCAFFOLD
Former Patersonian Meets His Death at Bayville, L.I.—Had Dizzy Spells
Dr. Henry Low Carr, of Bayville, L. I., formerly of this city, was killed on Saturday morning when he fell from a scaffold at his home. He died a few moments after the fall and was found by members of his family, who had been out marketing. No reason for his presence on the scaffold is known, but it was stated that he has had a few dizzy spells during the year, which probably caused his fatal fall on Saturday. Dr. Carr, who was born in Paterson and lived here for many years, was sixty-three years old and was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Carr, who lived on Vreeland avenue. He was personal friends of the late President Theodore Roosevelt, and was prominently connected with the erection of the Roosevelt Memorial in Long Island. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock from his home. Interment will be at Locust Valley Cemetery, Long Island. William F. Carr, of 437 Ellison street, who is well known in this city, is a brother of he deceased. Dr. Carr was a prominent Mason, having been a Thirty-third degree member of the Matinecock Lodge, of which President Roosevelt was a member. He was a graduate of the College of Hackettstown, and Cornell University. Surviving him are his wife, Ella Downey Carr; three sons, Benjamin D. (sic), Henry M.(sic) and Edward; two grandchildren; a brother, William F.; two sisters, Dr. Ada Carr and Ella Carr.

 | Carr, Adam: 1870 Census The census showed Adam (38), a plumber from Scotland living in the 4th Ward of Paterson, NJ along with his wife Sarah (38), Ada (18), William (15), Ella (7), and Henry L (5). Ada and Ella would never marry. Three children died in 1864: Catherine at age 7, Horace Greeley at age 6 and Frances at age 5. Other documents show that his profession is understated. His company, Adam Carr & Co., manufactured brass cocks and iron & galvanized pipes. Eric and Barbara (nee Stockdale) Mann located four US Patents awarded or assigned to Adam Carr in the late 1800's. They are available elsewhere on this website. The patents are associated with steam propulsion and relate directly to his indicated occupation: plumber. |
