 | Carr, William Seward: 1880 marriage to Elizabeth E Donnelly
William Seward Carr and Miss Elizabeth E. Donnelly, both 25 years of age, were married on 20 October, 1880 at 4 P.M. in what appears to read the Donnelly residence in Paterson (Broadway), NJ. Although, family records reflect the location as 431 Broadway which maps to the modern location of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. William was employed as a mechanic when they were married. The parents were listed as Adam Carr & Sarah E Tier and Arthur M. Donnelly & Amelia M. Drury. Of the four parents, only Sarah was born in the US. The others were born in Scotland, Ireland or England. The witnesses appear to read S.F. Watson and Amelia Donnelly. The name of the minister is not entirely legible but it appears he was from Paterson, NJ. Elizabeth's middle initial may have been in error - her middle name was Amanda. |
 | Carr: Cedar Lawn Cemetery burial card (back) Two of the interments appear to have been exhumed (Ex.): Eliza A Carr and Elizabeth D Chapman Carr. Minnie and Marion are spellings that do not match other family documents but otherwise match dates of death/burial. Elizabeth Drury has not been identifed as of September, 2012; nor has Ameila M Donnelly. |
 | Carr, Elizabeth A. (Donnelly): 1942 Obituary #1 Mrs. E. A. Carr Is Laid To Rest
"Many prominent persons, as well as a large delegation of representatives of the many organizations of which she was affiliated gathered to pay homage at the funeral of Mrs. Eliza A. Carr, one of the oldest living members of the St. Joseph's Church, held yesterday morning....Mrs.Carr, wife of the late William Seward Carr, died Saturday." |
 | Cemetery: Cedar Lawn, Carr family plots This diagram was provided by the cemetery staff to assist visitors in locating grave sites. Since the diagram is not wholly legible, visitors must first locate the grave site numbers on a larger diagram in the office - which itself requires the use of a magnifying glass. The star on the lower portion is the site of the office, while the two red dots on the right-hand portion indicate the general location of two Carr family plots:
1) the left-hand site is a without a monument, although there are two headstones; one for William A Carr and one for Elizabeth Chapman Carney (plot 164);
2) the right-hand site adjacent to Union Avenue has a single monument engraved with four names across the base: Ella, Ada, Adam and Sarah.
The main entrance to the cemetery is from McLean Blvd (Route 20) which runs between the cemetery and the Passaic River. |
