    Link to Google MapsObituary - George F. Tier Dies. George F. Tier, 58, formerly general foreman of the Santa Fe roundhouse in Emporia, died Monday morning in the Santa Fe hospital in Topeka. At the time of his death he was master mechanic of the Southern Kansas division with headquarters at Chanute. Funeral services and interment will be in Chanute. Mr. Tier was born at Norwalk, Ohio, and had been a Santa Fe employee 33 years. He was foreman of the shops at Strong City from 1910 to 1913, when he was promoted to general foreman at Emporia. During his residence here, he was director at the Lyon County State bank and served as an appointive member of the school board from January 1921 to January 1922, filling a position vacated by the resignation of Rev. Carl Nau. In 1921. he was transferred to Chanute as acting master mechanic and in August 1, 1922, he was given the job permanently. He then moved his family from Emporia to Chanute. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Stilwell, Okla., to I.O.O.P. lodge at Strong City and the Rotary club at Chanute. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pearl Tier; three sons, Jesse S. Tier, Chanute; Stanleigh (sic)O. Tier, Kansas university law student: and Terrett (sic) F. Tier, Chanute High school student, and three sisters, Mrs. H. B. Hotchkiss, Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Minnie Delmatter (sic) and Miss Annie Tier, both of Cleveland. Ohio.
