Terry (Malone) Carr's cousin advised: "Earlier today, I was going thru some Ft. Vance material and found this information... Carson Malone ran away from home when he was 19 years old and joined the
Union Army, serving with Company G, 110th Pennsylvania Volunteers. For some time he had charge of the transfer of prisoners from Charleston, SC to Pittsburgh. He saw Abraham Lincoln on several
occasions, shook hands with General Grant, and was present when Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox. After Lincoln?s assassination, he was a member of a squad that fired a salute over the train bearing Lincoln?s body through Harrisburg. Carson is pictured with his wife, Sarah Jane Johnson Malone. They lived many years on Plum Run Road, in
Burgettstown. This information was included in his obituary. They are buried in Fairview Cemetery.
