Kennedy, Ray Columbus: 1944 JUL 06 Obituary

Peacock Paratroop Sergeant Killed in Invasion of France
S-Sgt. Ray C. Kennedy, 27, paratrooper son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Kennedy of Peacock, was killed June 8 in the invasion of France his parents were informed Sunday. Sergeant Kennedy was the nephew of Mrs. Jo Pearle Adams, 1241 North 3d and had a brother, Joe, and a sister, Merle, students in Hardin-Simmons university. Alter volunteering for the Army May 23, 1938, Sergeant Kennedy went with an infantry unit to the Philippines where he served for three and a hall years. He returned to the United States in December 1941, leaving the islands just before the Japanese attack. He was on coast duty in California for a few months and then transferred to the paratroops. He was trained at Ft. Benning. Ga., and sent to Ireland in December 1943. Sergeant Kennedy’s wife and young daughter live in California. Two brothers are in service. Pfc. Donald Kennedy is overseas and S-Sgt. Bill Kennedy is at Randolph field. His other sister is Mrs. Hamp Cowan of Baird.
