A lovely wedding took place Saturday morning in the St. Patrick's church, Olyphant, when Miss Mary Elizabeth Martin, of Olyphant, became the bride of Louis Drury Carr, of Paterson, N. J. The Rev. Patrick J. Murphy performed the ceremony and celebrated the nuptial mass which followed. Before the ceremony Mrs. William McNulty sang "I Love You Truly." She also sang "At Dawning” and ‘O, Lord, I Am Not Worthy" during the offertory and communion. The bride, who was given in marriage by her uncle, Attorney P. L. Walsh, of Olyphant, was charmingly attired in a gown of white crepe chiffon over charmeuse, fashion in bouffant style with a count train, and trimmed with rare old lace. Her veil, which was of red lace, was arranged becomingly in crown effect. She carried a shower bouquet of lilies of the valley and forget-me-nots. Miss Martin’s wrap was a cape of rare paisley, which was also worn by her grandmother on her wedding day. Miss Rosemary Walsh, a cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a frock of pink georgette fashioned over yellow in bouffant style and a poke hat of pink mohair, trimmed with lace and rainbow streamers. She carried a bouquet of red roses. Nona Bried, a niece of the bride, was also in the bridal party as a flower girl. She was prettily attired in a French dress of pale pink georgette with poke bonnet to match and carried a basket of assorted nosegays. Charles Neil, of Paterson, N. J., was best man, and Thomas Fadden and John Grimshaw, of Patterson (sic), were ushers. The bride's gift to her attendant was a pink ostrich fan mounted in old ivory. The groom’s gift to the best man was a platinum watch chain, and the ushers, white gold watch chains. Following the ceremony there was a reception at the home of the bride’s grandfather, the late P. J. Kelly, with her mother, Miss William Martin, and her grandmother, Mrs. P. S. Kelly, receiving. After the reception Mr. and Mrs. Carr left on an extended trip through New England and Canada. They will reside at Clifton, N. J., after April 1. Mrs. Carr is a graduate of East Stroudsburg Normal school and has been teaching in the Olyphant schools for the past few years. Mr. Carr is supervising principal of the schools of Clifton, N. J. The out-of-town guests at the wedding and reception were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. William Seward Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Chapman and son, Warren, Mrs. Clara Stallard, Mr. and Mrs. John Russell Pyle and Miss Elizabeth Carr, Mrs. Carr Richard (sic), and Henry Parke Carr, of Paterson, N. J.; Mrs. A. B. Knight and Miss Nell O'Boyle, of New York; Mrs. Mary Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McCarthy and daughter, of Wilkes-Barre; Misses Nell, and Mary Shavlin, of Freeland; Misses Mary and Helen McDonnell, of Dunmore; and Miss Madeline Larkin, of Carbondale.

    • Louis Drury and Mary Elizabeth [Martin] Carr spent most of their married-years in New Jersey. In about 1983 when their health began to deteriorate and with no family members nearby, their children agreed that the optimum place for them to live would be near their son, William (Bill). So Louis and Mary flew along with their sons and a granddaughter, Mary Alice Stockdale who served as a flight nurse, from Spring Lake, NJ to Carroll, Iowa on a chartered plane. Bill was able to visit them daily in their assisted living home until they died. Thus their final resting placed became Iowa. When Bill and his wife later moved to Mississippi it seemed that Louis & Mary were being stranded alone in the Midwest (!), so two grandchildren (Regis 7 Suzanne) thought to have them re-intered in a Carr family plot in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, NJ. Those plans were tabled when Bill advised that he planned to join his parents when that time arrives.
Age at Marriage Louis was 24 years and 9 months old - Mary was 26 years and 10 months old.
