Link to Google MapsObituary - OBITUARY JOSEPH H. KELLY DIES SUDDENLY IN OLYPHANT Stroke Fatal to Well Known Mid-Valley Resident Joseph H. Kelly, aged 50 years, one of Olyphant’s best known residents, died very suddenly at 6 o'clock last night at the home of his sister, Mrs. Anthony Corcoran, in South Valley avenue, following a paralytic stroke which he suffered yesterday afternoon. He had been ill, but a short time and the news of his untimely death will come as a severe shock to his wide legion of friends throughout the Mid-valley. Apparently in the best of health, Mr. Kelly left the house yesterday afternoon about 2 o’clock and when he reached Lackawanna avenue, was stricken ill. He was taken to a nearby store and Dr. J. J. O’Connor was summoned. After treating him, the physician ordered him removed to his home where his death resulted a few hours later. Mr. Kelly was probably one of the best known men in that borough and for many years had been engaged in the bakery business, he having retired a few years ago. He was active in Democratice (sic) politics and for a number of years served as a member of the Olyphant school board as well as secretary of that body. He was a member of St. Patrick’s church and the Holy Name society. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Fadden, of Lake Ariel; and Mrs. Alice Martin and Mrs. Anthony Corcoran, both of Olyphant. He was a brother-in-law of Attorney P. L. Walsh, of this city. The funeral announcement will be made later. The Tribune - 25 OCT 1923 - Scranton, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, USA Find all individuals with events at this location Link to Google Earth
